Recognition

Does your body often feel stuck in patterns of stress or tension? You may notice that you:

  • Feel frequently on edge

  • Struggle to relax, even in safe environments

  • Experience ongoing physical tension

  • Feel overwhelmed by relatively small challenges

  • Feel tired but find it difficult to rest deeply

  • Notice it takes time to recover after stressful experiences

These responses are often connected to how the nervous system adapts to stress over time.

The good news is that the body has a natural capacity for regulation, and with greater awareness, it is possible to begin shifting these patterns.

Why the Zebra?

In the wild, zebras face moments of intense threat when escaping predators. Their bodies respond quickly: heart rate increases, muscles engage, and the nervous system shifts into a survival state.

What makes zebras remarkable is what happens next.
Once the danger has passed, they often return to grazing, movement, and connection with the herd. Their bodies gradually settle, and the stress response resolves.

Humans, however, don’t always move through stress in the same way.
Modern life like deadlines, emotional demands, uncertainty, and past experiences, can lead to ongoing patterns of tension, overwhelm, or withdrawal. Over time, these patterns can influence how we experience stress, rest, and connection.

Be the Zebra is informed by Polyvagal Theory, somatic approaches, and nervous system education. It offers a framework for understanding how the body responds to stress and how a greater sense of internal safety can be supported.

Through gentle, body-based practices, Be the Zebra supports:

  • Greater awareness of nervous system patterns

  • A more consistent sense of regulation

  • Increased resilience and emotional flexibility

  • More moments of calm, safety, and connection

Rather than pushing through stress, the Be the Zebra approach helps you build awareness of your body’s responses and explore ways to support regulation over time.

With practice, many people find their responses become more flexible, their resilience grows, and a greater sense of balance develops.
